A number of organisations are being asked by their local council to throw their hats into the ring and highlight the many reasons why people should visit their town on the north-east coast of England.
The Morpeth Herald revealed that it was putting together a number of important documents – particularly leaflets – to showcase everything that the town has to offer during the course of 2013. Organised primarily by the Town Team – set up in the wake of the Mary Portas-led bid to help show off the area as a shopping and visitor destination – the initiative hopes to boost tourist numbers.
A number of things already making the grade on this print campaign are the popular duathlon around the town at the start of April, Morpeth’s Northumbrian Gathering, its annual Fair Day, Picnic in the Park and a number of Heritage Open Days. However, other businesses, community organisations and people are being asked to come up with big events, with free publicity guaranteed.
Made up of representatives from Morpeth Town Council, Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade and the Greater Morpeth Development Trust (GMDT) – among others – the project is backed by £10,000 following the support of Wansbeck MP Ian Lavery. David Lodge, GMDT chief executive, told the newspaper: “We see this new leaflet as an important part of marketing the town and we want it to be as inclusive as possible.”
